I loved the early 80s when this was big May 26, 2007 Crazy Andy 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
For me, this was one of the best toys ever invented. The concept is very simple, but the combinations run into the zillions, which means that you can't solve it by chance.
However, one can have fun working out how to solve it, then once you've done that, impress your mates by applying the same principles over and over again. There isn't that much to remember once you know how.
The main problem is in the mechanism and the stickers. These things don't last forever, and can start falling about once they've been played with quite a lot. Also, I have experienced the paint fading on some of the stickers. So it could be much more durable than it is.
However, this is definitely one of my all time favourite toys.
Rubik's Cube...Its a Puzzle December 9, 2008 R. Girling (ipswich) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
One of today's modern day mysteries, a puzzle that has stood the test of time and has now been integrated into our modern pop culture, i refer of course to the Rubik's Cube. Created in 1980, the Rubik's Cube (Originally called The Magic Cube) is a straight forward, 3D puzzle. There are 6 sides, green, yellow, red , orange, white and blue, your goal is to make all 6 sides their complete corresponding colour. Once you have purchased your Cube you'll notice that the Cube is already solved on all 6 sides but now the time has come, you must scramble your cube. During most of the time after its release only 1/3 of the Earths population that had bought a Rubik's Cube had actually solved it. But for the other 2/3 their cube's remained unsolved.
This product is a great present for anyone who loves puzzles or for anyone who doesn't already own one. This particular one comes with a rather nice stand to show off your cube when its finished and a 7-step booklet on how to solve a Rubik's Cube so you won't have to peal off the stickers.
How much fun?: This toy is a lot of fun and can provide hours/months of enjoyment to anyone who is patient.
Educational Value: Though the Cube isn't that mathematical it certainly requires a lot of logic puzzle solving and requires you to think in order to solve it.
Durability: Its not the best quality Cube in the fact that the stickers do, with constant use, come off eventually and there are cubes you can get that with tiles not stickers. But still the stickers don't come off in days like people say they take years, and the cube doesn't just fall apart either.
Overall this is a great puzzle and, for me, years of entertainment at a very cheap price. Once you've solved this try the bigger and badder challenge in the Rubik's Cube family, The 4x4 Rubik's Revenge Cube.
ADDITIONAL: After you've solved the cube you probably will want to speed solve the Rubik's Cube in which case i suggest you do the following:
Turn the top layer of your cube at a 45 degree angle and pry out the center piece. Then pull out the subsequent other 2 pieces. Now get a jar of Vaseline and apply some to the gaps in the cube. Reassemble the cube and do this to the rest of the cube. Now twist all the cubes sides and you should now find your cube moves like a dream :).
Happy Solving!
Just as I remember June 30, 2008 uberdogz (UK) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I had one of the original cubes as a child and loved it. It is probably up in the loft somewhere but I wanted a new one anyway. This is exactly the same high quality I remember. It was lovely and fluid straight out of the box. I love it just as much now as I did then, now Im a bit smarter so can complete it too LOL. I have no hesitation in recommending this cube, it really is the best one you can buy.

The old classic is back. I can't believe it was 25 years ago. I have just bought a new one and have it on my desk now, it is still as difficult as it always was, two sides is my max. I would also recommend the other fantastic Rubiks puzzles. These are very educational developing one's brain and intelligence, and puzzle solving ability.
Rubiks cube August 16, 2010 P. Wareing I bought my rubik's cube from amazon just over a month ago for about £6. The item is the official item which comes in quite a unnecessarily plastic large box. Included in the box is the cube, a small plastic stand and a brief leaflet to help you complete the puzzle.
The cube is the traditional colours of red, blue, green, yellow, orange and white. The colours are stickers on the black plastic construction. This isn't the best idea because the stickers were not all carefully placed, which is disapointing because it makes it look a bit cheap. Another problem i have, is that if you catch the corner of the stickers, it creases and will never look the same as when it is new.
However, the game, as always very addictive, taking a huge amount of skill patience and a bit of luck. The construction makes it easy to manipulate the puzzle however, you get the odd occasion where the puzzle gets 'stuck' because the lines are not aligned properly which is annoying.
The stand is a good feature because it holds the cube on one of its corners doubles up to make it an ornament as well.
Finally, I must comment on the brief guide/instructions to help you get the furtherest you can in your puzzle. There are 8 keys steps which are the main moves which are recommended to use. They are very simple to follow, but a lot harder to do yourself!!
